"A masterclass in Dance Theatre from a North East power duo"
Reviews are in for Kylie Jenner's Private Jet by Pelican Theatre...
Before you say anything - I’m not reviewing my own show.
In case any of you don’t know, I’m not just a dance writer, I’m also a performer, choreographer, and facilitator. Over the last 2 months I’ve been working on a project with my company Pelican Theatre, to create a show called Kylie Jenner’s Private Jet. (It’s even better than it sounds, but don’t take my word for it - you can read two reviews of the show below.)
One of the best things about being a North East based artist is the community. Following the premiere of our show on Thursday night, we were invited to take part in a post-show discussion with Dance City’s Senior Producer, Graeme Thompson. As 3 talk show-esque armchairs appeared onstage and the house lights lifted, my eyes fell on an audience full of friends, peers, students, and colleagues past and present. Discussion led to questions, led to feedback, led to smiles and hugs in the foyer, led to raised glasses and sighs of relief.
Five years of working in the region has gone by in the blink of an eye, and sometimes it’s hard to comprehend what I’ve achieved in that time. Seeing that crowd of people, the realisation hit me that my biggest achievement has been growing this network of friends, who all generously gave their time and energy to be that first, warm-hearted audience. Thank you all!
