A space for Dance Writing

As a dancer and choreographer, every project I have worked on has resulted in a full notebook. So much writing happens behind the scenes and in the studio - scribbled ideas, daily reflections, creative tasks, lists; movement comes from the words and the words can be moving.

I want to create a space for these words to live, for two reasons:

  1. So that they are not lost, wasted, or forgotten.

  2. To help audiences understand the dance they see on stage - what goes into it, the ideas behind it, the process that went into creating it.

In addition to this, I’ll be sharing reviews, interviews, articles, and other pieces written by dance artists connected to the North East. There is a thriving dance community here and I want more people to know about it!

Whether you’re an art lover who has never seen any dance and is curious what it’s all about, or a seasoned theatre-goer wanting to stay in the loop with the exciting work happening in the North East, COMMOTION is the place to read, write, and talk about dance.
